2) National CAPACD Holds Community Forum in Houston
On December 11, 2006, National CAPACD hosted a
gathering in Houston to discuss the local AAPI community development
needs and educate AAPI leaders on community development corporations
(CDCs) and community development financial institutions (CDFIs).
A community-focused follow-up to our national convention in Houston
last May, the meeting brought together more than 60 community members,
leadership of the City of Houston’s Department of Housing and
Community Development, and representatives of the Greater Houston and
Texas Association of CDCs.
Congressman Al Green, Chair of the CAPAC Housing Taskforce and a member
of the CAPAC Executive Committee, noted in his opening remarks that
“this meeting is a wonderful opportunity to learn more from
Houston’s AAPI community. I am looking forward to working
with [National] CAPACD to organize more community forums to follow up
on ideas from this meeting.”
Congressman Nick Lampson was also present and spoke during the reception that followed the meeting.
