National CAPACD Hiring Federal Policy Advocate
National CAPACD is searching for an experienced, talented, and professional individual to join the team as the new Federal Policy Advocate. This new hire will work closely with Executive Director, Lisa Hasegawa, and our member organizations to promote policies that further the needs of low income and underserved communities through Congressional action and administrative reform.
The Federal Policy Advocate will maintain and strengthen relationships with federal policymakers and members of Congress, analyze federal policy developments affecting AAPI communities, represent the positions of National CAPACD in public forums, participate in and plan meetings, trainings and conferences on policy issues, and prepare legislative updates, reports and publications.

2) Jane Duong Joins the National CAPACD Team
National CAPACD is excited to welcome the newest member to our team, Jane Duong. Bringing a wealth of knowledge in housing, pre-purchase and foreclosure counseling, and financial education in low-income communities of color, Jane is joining us as our National AAPI Housing Program Manager. Jane spent the last several years at the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) developing and implementing programs addressing the financial and asset development needs in the Latino community through housing counseling. She served as the primary person responsible for the development of MEDA’s foreclosure counseling program, planning and executing two annual Homeownership Fairs attracting over 1000 participants to learn more about available housing resources and opportunities. Jane is a NeighborWorks Certified Housing Counselor, and Foreclosure Intervention & Default Counselor. She also is a trainer for the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) in pre-purchase counseling and education. She is not new to the National CAPACD family – she comes to us with experience at one of our founding member organizations, having spent several years working as the Property Management Assistant at Chinatown Community Development Center in San Francisco.
As the National AAPI Housing Program Manager, Jane will be working closely with member organizations to develop and strengthen the network of comprehensive, culturally and linguistically competent housing counseling organizations. She will also play a substantive leadership role in our housing advocacy work to ensure that federal programs and policies meet the needs of low income and underserved communities of color. 3) NeighborWorks America Scholarships Available
National CAPACD and NeighborWorks® America, through the George Knight Scholarship Program are offering a limited number of full tuition and single-room lodging scholarships to National CAPACD members to attend up to 5 days of training at the upcoming NeighborWorks® Training Institute in Washington, DC from December 7-11, 2009.
The scholarship does NOT include travel, incidentals, and most meals. Continental breakfast and morning and afternoon beverages are served each day. Hot and cold hor d’oeuvres will be served at the networking reception. All other meals are at your own expense.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
This is an opportunity for community organizations to develop or strengthen their capacity to address the ongoing foreclosure crisis. Therefore, scholarship applicants are required at least one foreclosure-related course. These trainings can be useful for the development of a foreclosure counseling program, or for the broadening of existing translation services. For more information on the courses needed to become a certified foreclosure or housing counselor, please check out this site.
