Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) are at high risk of displacement and yet, low-income AAPI narratives and voices are often left out of broader neighborhood organizing campaigns and national policy conversations. In response, National CAPACD developed the #OurNeighborhoods toolkit. This online resource includes our analysis of gentrification and its causes; strategies and tactics from the AAPI community organizing field; stories of successful anti-displacement campaigns from our members on the ground; and custom data on housing costs and poverty. National CAPACD translated key parts of the toolkit into Bangla, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
National CAPACD will host the official toolkit launch on Wednesday, October 30th, at 2:30PM ET. The event will feature a panel of national partners and local members leading anti-displacement work. Confirmed panelists include:
- Karen Chen, Executive Director, CPA Boston
- Chris Genese, Senior Organizer, Community Change
- Paige Kumm, National Organizer for Membership Development, Right to the City Alliance
- Dia Parker, Executive Director, Los Vecinos de Buford Highway
- Moderator: Anjan Chaudhry, Director of Community Empowerment, National CAPACD
Panelists will discuss organizing in AAPI neighborhoods, and how AAPIs can work with other communities of color in grassroots and national anti-displacement efforts. We look forward to seeing you there!
