2026 Building CAPACD Convention

The Building CAPACD Convention is where we come together to turn community power into action. Every two years, community development practitioners, leaders, and allies from across the country convene to strengthen neighborhoods and advance housing and economic opportunity in low-income Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA and NHPI) communities. This convening is a rare and deeply meaningful space to share what’s working on the ground, learn from one another, exchange stories and narratives, and build strategies rooted in place and people—while also celebrating culture, honoring community joy, and recognizing the resilience that carries us through challenging times.

This year, National CAPACD will host the Building CAPACD Convention from August 3-5 in Long Beach, California—one of the most culturally vibrant regions in the country, home to long-standing communities shaped by migration, collective organizing, and cultural resilience. Our 2026 theme, Anchored in Places, Powered by Communities, explores place as more than geography—place sustains identity and belonging, preserves cultural heritage, and deepens collective resilience to drive action. Long Beach and the greater Southern California region offer a powerful landscape to examine how place continues to anchor our communities and cultivate cultural belonging despite generations of displacement, disinvestment, and erasure.

Participants will learn from Long Beach and Southern California’s rich histories, share their own stories of building place-based power, and strategize to preserve, reclaim, and strengthen the neighborhoods and cultural anchors our communities rely on. Together, we will deepen relationships, renew energy, and strengthen our shared commitment to move forward collectively—grounded in community and possibility—toward a future where all communities can belong, thrive, and shape the places they call home.
